Fat Freddy's Dr Boondigga And The Big BW has smashed a bunch of Amplifier records. Yesterday saw the most visitors through the site in a day, we've sold and shipped more copies of Dr Boondigga And The Big BW than we did of their previous album in the first week of sales in both CD and digital formats...
The band's first studio album, Based On A True Story, released in 2005, sold more than 120,000 copies and was No1 on the New Zealand charts for 11 weeks. It was the second-best-selling album in 2005 and the top-selling record in 2006. It spent more time on the top 40 than any other local album, a staggering 107 weeks.
They won in every category they were nominated in at the 2005 New Zealand Music Awards: Best Group, Best Album, Best New Zealand Roots Group and the People's Choice Award.
Just like their last album Dr Boondigga And The Big BW is set to be the exception to the rule for most local music industry trends. The question now is will it enter the charts at number one and how many Tui's will the band take away at this years NZ Music Awards.
It certainly looks like 2009 is set to be another stunning year for Fat Freddy's Drop!
