Bring Me The Head Of..

23.03.10
This week's Official Top 40 Chart seem like a bit of an anomaly as the number one in album, single and compilation all go to local releases - a coincidence one would expect to happen often if at all. Yet according to Paul Kennedy's tweets yesterday, (Paul runs Radioscope the company that compiles the chart data), locals have taken out the duel number ones in Album and Singles no less than twenty-nine occasions in the past eight years - that's quite staggering.
With new albums coming up from; the Phoenix Foundation, Anika Moa, Dane Rumble , P-Money amongst others our music chart is set to be a healthy shade of green for quite sometime - we like that.

Release Of The Day:
OdESSA - Bring Me The Head Of Pepe Lopez
In 2010 OdESSA have made their previously unreleased album Bring Me The Head Of Pepe Lopez available, featuring the "classic" lineup of vocalist Matt Pender, bassist Paul Mouncey, drummer Matt Swain and uniquely-gifted guitarist Matthew Armitage.
The album was originally recorded mostly on cassette in 2004, then shelved when the band followed industry advice to tailor their sound for radio-play consideration.
The band now wish Bring Me The Head Of Pepe Lopez to be regarded as their definitive work.
Chart Attack
This week's chart is an oddity with the album, single and compilation chart all recording a number one spot for a local release, if it were a competition not a tally of sales someone would be getting a medal...and that person this week would have to be Hollie Smith.
We've all read the sob stories about her experience with Manhattan Records and the resulting hardship she's had to endure. Well Hollie things are looking up with your second album (we hope you own the masters of this one) debuting at number one, a top result, congratulations.
Hollie's not alone in the album stakes; Gin's still there with Holy Smoke, this week recording a slight drop to number 3. Stan Walker continues to chart well and is at 11 this week.
Nathan Haines will be pleased with his entry for Heaven and Earth, hitting the chart at number 13. Just behind him is J Williams with the collectors' edition of Young Love.
Evermore's Evermore compilation hits the chart at number 32 and the Fourmyula's Complete Fourmyula 4CD collection debuts at number 35.
Shapeshifter's System Is A Vampire pops back into the chart this week at 36 and Jah Riddem round out the local albums entries with Jah Riddem sitting at number 38.
In the singles chart J Williams who's single featuring Scribe You Got Me is again at number one - congratulations guys!
Very little movement from Nesian Mystik who stay at five, Kids Of 88, Dane Rumble and Stan Walker hold 12, 13 and 14 respectively whilst Gin is our last entry at number 22.
One notable entry to the singles chart this week comes from the Dukes whose single Vampires has, after many months, popped up at number 32.
The Pasifika compilation holds its top spot in the compilation chart and The Great NZ Songbook is at 8.
