Great Music In The Waitakere Foothills

With summers end drawing ever nearer its that time of the year we realise that everything possible must be done to soak in those last few proverbial rays of sun. What could be more summery than a (short) road trip out west, a picnic with friends and some great music in a beautiful setting.
Such an event, simply called The Foothills, will be held on 19 February at 54 Shaw Road, Oratia between 3.30pm and 11pm. Situated in the foothills of the Waitakere Ranges, Oratia was once known as the fruit bowl of Auckland. Its many orchards and vineyards may have become somewhat depleted but the land is still fruitful and the scenery beautiful.
Really, it's all about the music and a wide variety of excellent bands and musicians have been coaxed to play for you there, from Tui and Silver Scroll nominated Artisan Guns, to the enchanting songs of Lisa Crawley. Tiny Ruins joins us having returned from a stint overseas recording her debut album in Australia and playing shows with the likes of Beach House. Great North will lull you into a folk rock stupor before Dictaphone Blues blow you back off your seat with their extra strength blend of pop-infused rock'n'roll. Tono & the Finance Company will have you dancing yet also bewildered and amused at the succinctness and intelligence of his lyrics. All girl folk-pop trio Teacups will also contribute some decidedly alluring music to the mix.
